******** 24**********

Is this it!!?!!! Number 24! At last.......
What an experience. There were times of fright, frustration, resignation- is this really happening out there - how do you make this work-kind of feelings. Where do people find the time to put all this stuff together and how do others know how to use it?
Times of exhileration, relief, amusement, accomplishment -this is really interesting and useful -wow- kind of feelings.
Whatever I felt and thought whilst working through these exercises, I am really glad I was given the opportunity to have experienced this program. It is so easy to sit back and watch the world go by but once in a while we need to be pushed into the fray of things, and boy did I feel like I had been pushed off the deep end!

Having toiled my way through the program to try and finish by the deadline, I feel that I have a lot more exploration to do in all of these topics. To be able to comfortably use any of them at work or home I would have do a "Playground Revisited" course.

Thanks to one and all for the experience and help.

Audiobooks and eBooks

As I deal with people who cannot read print for themselves, I found these sites extremely interesting. Librivox - what a great concept, my hat is raised to all those volunteers that are donating their time and reading these books for people to listen to.
I cannot wait to get my MP3 to download audiobooks from Library to Go. This way I may be able to reduce my "books to eventually read" list, by listening to some of them whilst doing chores, at the gym, on the bus, etc.
I shall have to pass these sites onto my patrons who have access to a computer and someone at home to help them.

Podcasts

I found podcast alley easy to use, the proof is in my managing to put 2 feeds to my Blog YEAH! See the one for CBC and Library Lady, she may come in useful if I can get some of my clients out of bed and on to the computer, or purchase an ipod. I wonder if I can link her up to my answering machine at work? (joking!)

Full circle!

YouTube: well here I am back where I started - trying to put a video on my Blog!
I felt a little less intimidated this time but ended up just as frustrated.
I tried putting my original one here "a guy walking a precarious footpath" but I could not locate it on YouTube. I did find it on Brightcove but the image was not as clear and the background sound had been altered, then I lost it altogether trying to put it on the Blog! Went back to YouTube and got mesmerised by the dolphins playing with their own air bubbles, guess the old theory is right - watching fish in an aquarium calms people down (often found on psych wards, at dentists and in banks)!

Thanks to Karl for the rescue.

I do wish that web sites/pages were less cluttered and had simple user friendly instructions for copying and sharing, after all digital dinosaurs have a lot of evolving to do.

Askaway

Quick and professional and the answer was spot on.
Great for people who are not very swift at surfing the web.
Can imagine a lot of kids trying to use it as an easy way to get their homework done.

NVDPL's Magazine & Newspaper Articles, Reference and Information Databases.

For me the best site yet! Easy to access, easy to use. Everything at your fingertips without having to go through web sites ad nauseum to find the specific info needed.
A useful site for everyone, kids, adults, staff, students, those looking for serious stuff and those looking for entertainment. Well done NVDPL!
Sites that may prove useful to my work,
Library to Go E-Audio
Novelist Plus
Bloom's Literary Reference Online
Patron Books in Print.
A site that I am glad is there but hope never to have to use,
Auto Repair Centre.
Sites that jumped out at me and asked to be opened,
Ancient and Medieval History Online
Global Road Warrior
Opposing Viewpoints Resource Centre.
I had fun looking at the kid's sites,
Kids Search - How to INSULT A JELLYFISH very interesting!
I must introduce "Tumblebooks Library" to all my grandparent friends.

Office 2007, Part 8,#18

Had fun with Office Word using various tools for borders, headings and picture inserts and noticing the difference between print and web layouts.

Making graphs in Excel was easy and fun.

Tried to send them to the Blog but chickened out when was asked for server info!

#17Shared Calendars

Worked steadily through the Discovery Resources and the Discovery Exercise.
Yet again had technical difficulties as "it" wouldn't accept my co-workers to share with. They could send to me but I couldn't connect with them. I did see how it was supposed to work in the Resource section.
Never knew we had access to the Board Room calendar - useful info!
I will use calendars more in the future once I get my connection glitch sorted out.

Part 8, #16 email best practices

Did better than I expected in the Phishing IQ Test, 8 out of 10. Guess that means I still have a good chance of being caught. :( <- a good place to use this sign!
